US Mint Coins
I heard today that the last of the state quarters are coming out this year. Probably I'm in the minority here in that I like the sets and have at least one silver proof set of every year. Other than the 99 and 01 sets, they will probably never be worth much but I don't really care, I like the sets. I'll probably never realize any profit from my gold Lunars either because I'll probably die with them clenched in my fist.
Another set that I'm picking up is the Presidential coins. I getting at least one roll per. I got a roll of Madisons today. You'd have to be nuts to pay the mint over face for these, just get them at your bank for face. |

I have rolls of the first two Presidential coins - in both mintmarks.........mainly cause I hope one day when I am very old - to open them and discover no "In God We Trust" written on the rims! :D The rest I doubt if they will ever be worth more than a buck.........and the way the buck is going, the nickel might be worth more soon! |
Re: US Mint Coins
I collect the First Day Covers of the State Quarters and Presidential Dollars. We also have all the Mint Sets, Silver Proof, Proof and Clad from 1960 to present, including the coveted 1999 and 2001 Silver Sets.
They might never be worth what our PM's are, but they are lots of fun to be able to collect at a reasonable sum. Master Ho, I will try to get some pictures of my new Dragon Set taken when it gets here from Australia. I managed to find a 5 Coin Silver Proof Lunar Dragon Set, and it is currently winging its way across the oceans to me. It will probbably be a week or so till I get them and I will put the pictures over in the Australian Lunar thread. |

It is the same as the regular Australian Lunar Dragon, except that the background is mirrored and the detail is burnished. Here is a small picture, it's not very good, but it is all I have right now. The set consists of a Kilo, 10oz, 2oz, 1oz and 1/2oz Silver Proof Dragons in a specially made case. They were not readily available and I think only 1,000 Sets were made. I found this one in Australia and it is numbered as #85. Attachment 37217 Attachment 37218 |
